This female sifaka, a type of lemur, is native to Madagascar. There are about 1,500 lemurs in America, under the protection of the Zoology Department at Duke University. The lemur is a threatened/endangered species.

Gary Karlsen

Gary Karlsen is a writer and amateur photographer. His rich and varied travels have included sailing the oceans of world on deep-sea freighters, circumnavigating North America by thumb, riding the rails across Canada, flying single engine airplanes into mountain lakes, traveling half the globe as a merchant mariner, and speaking at international conferences as an educator.
