The juxtaposition of olive groves and vineyards is a natural one. The staples of Italian horticulture - olives and grapes have been the most important crops in the region for millennia.

Gary Karlsen is a writer and amateur photographer. His rich and varied travels have included sailing the oceans of world on deep-sea freighters, circumnavigating North America by thumb, riding the rails across Canada, flying single engine airplanes into mountain lakes, traveling half the globe as a merchant mariner, and speaking at international conferences as an educator. He has travelled through careers in the construction industry, the teaching profession, and as a television producer.
