Artist's Description

This was one very frosty day at Stewart Farm in Surrey, BC. After days of sub-zero weather on the coastal shoreline, exceptionally deep and rich frost covered everything - like a rough glaze of icing. But with a closeup lens we see more. The naked eye rarely experiences this micro-world.

Gary Karlsen

Gary Karlsen is a writer and amateur photographer. His rich and varied travels have included sailing the oceans of world on deep-sea freighters, circumnavigating North America by thumb, riding the rails across Canada, flying single engine airplanes into mountain lakes, traveling half the globe as a merchant mariner, and speaking at international conferences as an educator. He has travelled through careers in the construction industry, the teaching profession, and as a television producer. Karlsen continues to explore the world with his lifelong companion, Joanne and share it with others through his writing, his photography, and videos (See YouTube).
