Artist's Description

The White Truck company began in 1900, making steam-powered cars. White is most known for its trucks, which continued to be made up until 1980. White, based in Cleveland, Ohio, was a major supplier of vehicles for WWl and WW ll. White Trucks made Roe and Western Star, and had corporate relations and productions with Studebaker and Freighliner. (I wonder if an American vehicle manufacturer would name a model White Super Power today).

This truck could be seen as fire trucks, school busses, semi's, farm trucks, tow trucks, and so on.

I photographed this 1952 White Super Power truck in a farmer's field in the Snohomish Valley of Washington State.

Western Star was made in the Kelowna, BC plant in Canada. Volvo ended up buying White assets and continues to make heavy trucks.
